So which is it going to be?
I’ve been working in the home cinema industry now for well over 10 years and I have my own high end home cinema setup and yet I still go to the movies. The reason for me is that I love the atmosphere of a mainstream cinema and although my home setup is probably far better than most cinemas out there it’s the people that make the experience in my opinion.
Naturally the mainstream cinemas get the movies far sooner than they are released to the public on DVD and Blu-ray and so this is another reason to go. Also, I think it’s the whole experience that makes it better; the waiting in the queues chatting to other people and discussing the up coming film. Even getting all the other elements such as popcorn and drinks add to it. And then afterwards it’s great to compare notes with other people as you are leaving.
Now all this can only really be done in a mainstream cinema and I guess that’s why they still have their appeal.
