Kathryn Bigelow

by Justin on September 5, 2010

I just came across this blog HERE about Kathryn Bigelow discussing all her films.  It’s well worth checking it out as the content is really interesting.

It also discusses the immersive style of all her films and the different ways it’s included in each one.  Going back as far as Near Dark there is a real feel for the nocturnal setting which brings you into that world perfectly.  Point Break does a similar thing using water and gives you that feel of actually touching and immersing yourself in it.

It’s through the use of certain techniques that she is able to bring the cinema audience in and although the medium used to do this differs from film to film the technique stays the same throughout.  It’s well worth looking into this more if you have the time or are interested in film direction at all as you will pick up some really good ideas which you can incorporate into your own portfolio; I know I have!
