I have spent many years reading home cinema reviews and I also know quite a few people in the industry who write some of those reviews. Now without being too controversial I know in some instances the person reviewing hadn’t even seen the product there were writing the review on!
Now this may sound worrying and it can be if you just go out and believe every home cinema review as gospel. However, is you take the time to do your own due diligence and simply use the review as a way of finding out what products and systems are generating a buzz right now then you’ll end up getting the best system for you.
The other problem with home cinema reviews is that you are listening to someones personal opinion and while not necessarily biased, they still will have a preference that may not fit in with your own tastes.
Whenever I read home cinema reviews I use it as a way to see what kind of systems are being matched up together. So, for instance there may be a review of a surround sound system along with the new home cinema projector. Now this gives me an idea of what types of systems are currently being matched together by the manufacturers and distributors which helps me look into the right products and not waste time on systems that are just not going to perform.
Home Cinema Reviews Exposed
Anyone who has even a small amount of experience in marketing will understand that in a lot of cases the home cinema reviews are simply there to promote a product and their purpose is not really to give you a great unbiased view of the system. The idea is that it generates interest and gets people talking about that product. In many high profile home cinema magazines, the power of getting a ‘Best Buy’ or similar tag is worth thousands of pounds to that product, in fact tens of thousands and probably more. This is because people do just go out and buy the product because it has got a best buy review tag. Now does this mean the product is actually a best buy, well it probably is good value and a great product but that’s not really the point. The idea is that in every case the product should be right for you despite how good it actually is. You might find an amazing product but if it doesn’t fit in with your home or lifestyle then it may not be worth you spending money on it at all.
How To Make The Most Of A Home Cinema Review
The way to get the most out of a home cinema review is to use it as a guide to the possibilities for your own system and then go and do your own due diligence on the product. Get out there and listen to it, take a look at it, touch and feel it. You can do all these things at your local home cinema store and they will be more than happy to show you all the different benefits of each system.
Most home cinema stores should be unbiased as they have a range of different products but also be aware that as they need to get rid of stock or perhaps make a much larger margin on certain products they may try and push you in that direction. Do not be swayed by this, just use your own judgement and use the opinion of the sales staff as simply a guide to enhance your own thoughts.
Afterthoughts
So if you do nothing else after reading this article then please DO NOT just go out and buy a home cinema product because it has received a good review or that is has a ‘Best Buy’ tag on it. Use that as your guide and go and find out for yourself if it’s going to match in with your personal taste and lifestyle.
